CPH
We arrived back to Amsterdam after a successful weekend in Copenhagen. I’ve decided/reconfirmed that Danish design is definitely my cup of tea. I also had a lot of fun snapping photos and saw I had some themes between architecture, people and interior spaces.

INTERIORS
And of course we couldn’t leave CPH without seeing the Royal...

Rosti Christmas
Christmas is over and I’m still having good memories about our wonderful time spent in Iowa. Luckily I don’t just need memories because I also arrived back in Amsterdam with a few new goodies, such as these Danish Rosti Mepal spoons which each of us found in our Christmas Socks.
After having a bit of fun with our new colorful Rostis, they have now found a home next the stove in a...

1Q84
1Q84 arrived in the mail because somebody in New York loves me! And it’s an extra bonus because the cover is designed by Chip Kidd.
I think Christmas vacation will be the perfect moment to devout time to this one.
Thanks Murakami. Thanks B.

Welcome to the newest member
of the family…an original RAR Eames chair!
This is an original fiberglass armchair, in obsidian, with a new rocker base and it found its way into our hands last weekend. The only problem was transporting it home via a bike through Amsterdam. Luckily it arrived safe and sound and has found a cozy place next to my favorite Wim Crouwel poster.
Time to go sit and relax with my new best friend.

Nativity Adventure
I have fond memories of setting up my mom’s Nativity set every Christmas above the fireplace and playing with the figures as a kid, and decided it was the right time and the right place to have my own set on our recent trip to Israel, which meant entering into Bethlehem.
To enter Bethlehem required us to cross into the West Bank, go through checkpoints and find a shop in Palestinian...

Celebrating in Style
Nothing like celebrating one more year lived, with a little help from my (sixties) friends. Lucky for us the 60s never left our apartment and we just needed to add the attire to make it a perfect night; equipped with plenty of Tom Collins, games of Yahtzee, twisting dance moves, candy cigarettes and of course a Mad Men slide show (too bad there was no Kodak Carousel).
Thanks...

Window Shopping
September turned out to be quite the month with our trip to the Middle East and I was lucky enough to finish out the last days of the month in Bologna, Italy.
Good thing for my wallet that the Italian’s take siesta and close everything down in the afternoon so I could stroll through the streets and admire the shop windows (and everything in those shop windows) without spending a dime.

The Holy Land
Things have been a bit quiet on the blogging front due to an incredible trip to Turkey, Israel and Jordan.
Lots of Food (sabich), beaches, camels and cuddling donkeys…
Next time I’ll be sure to pack my burkini.

Abandoned Shipyard
Friday night was spent walking around and eating on NDSM werf in Amsterdam. The sun was shining, people were out and it was a lovely evening to walk around and enjoy the strange images from the abandoned shipyard.
Loving the infamous sea container apartments.
Norderlicht restaurant with lots of tables outside and views overlooking the river.
This is definitely a favorite place of...

The Expired Food Club
Last Tuesday was the first edition in a series of 6 evenings where people gather to eat a 3-course meal made from expired food. The meal is free if you contribute by bringing your own out of date food and help chop whatever needs a bit of extra preparation, thus you have The Expired Food Club. John and I had the privilege of joining the group on the opening night and celebrate a friend’s...

Sea Containers
Friday turned into a beautiful day/evening as the rain, which hadn’t stopped coming down since Tuesday, finally let up and the sunshine came out. So we headed over to NDSM wharf to Over het IJ theatre festival. I was surprised to find that all the theatre shows were going on inside old sea containers
What was so great was that each theatre show used the container in different ways. As...

De Taart van mijn Tante
Amsterdam is so nice in the summer for biking around, walking around, shopping around, wandeling around and of course eating cake! Really really good cake at that.
That’s why if you’re ever in the neighborhood eat at De Taart van mijn Tante (translated: The cake from my Aunt). I’m definitely going to try the Swedish Princess cake next time but the carrot cake was delish.

Patrick Hruby
I saw these glasses on Patrick Hruby’s blog and they reminded me of my vintage circus glasses I own seen on a previous post of mine here.
To purchase these gems visit the Fish Eddy website, and be sure to check out all the other beautiful glasses there as well.

Love
Thanks to some great deals found on Anthropologie, I received this lovely number in the mail
Bettye Muller Shoes made in Italy and now that I look at the website I see so many more that I’d love to have for the summer.
Sometimes the packing is almost as fantastic as the product
It even came with the receipt in this hand-sewn envelope.
Mooi!

Vieux Carré Surroundings
Thanks to a tip from my besty in New York, John and I enjoyed seeing the Tennessee Williams play, Vieux Carré at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam…and it just so happened to be our two year anniversary as well.
So while we enjoyed the weather before the show, in Westergasfabriek, I snapped some photos of interesting things around us.
It seems that someone was terribly concerned that the bike...

Haruki Murakami
Book covers are a recurring theme here, and since I spent the day at the American Book Center yesterday and walked out with a handful of new books, I thought I would dedicate this post to one of my favorite authors, who seems to always have creative covers.
Here’s to you Haruki Murakami
The Elephant Vanishes is my newest read
And finally, Kafka on the Shore, these covers...

Ciao
I’m so privileged to live in Europe and be so close to far away places that aren’t so far anymore. That I can hop on a plane and in a matter of only a few hours I’m in a completely different world.
Thus, we just spent 10 days traveling around Sicily in a tiny Fiat 500 and enjoying the quiet beauty that is present in such a bustling and chaotic place.
If anyone is ever...

Koninginnedag
Once a year, The Netherlands turns into a country-wide yard sale (amongst other things) for Queen’s Day and this year I made sure we hit the best spots in Amsterdam.
There were so many great things but after a few hours it was hard to decide if what you wanted to buy was really that fantastic or if your eyes were just going all wibly on you.
In the end I did purchase a few of these...
